Bronchoscopy

Bronchoscopy helps the treating physician examine the internal condition of the lungs, making it essential for diagnosing and treating various lung diseases.

Bronchoscopy is performed to evaluate a lung issue. For example, you may be referred to our center for bronchial examination due to a radiological opacity discovered on your chest X-ray, or if you are experiencing chronic coughing with blood of unknown origin.

When Do We Need Bronchoscopy?

The reasons for performing bronchoscopy may include:

  • Diagnosing a pulmonary disease or airway dysfunction
  • Identifying the cause of pneumonia by taking a bronchoalveolar lavage
  • Obtaining a tissue sample from the lungs or lymph nodes for analysis
  • Removing mucus obstruction, a foreign body, or any other blockage in the airways or lungs, such as tumors
  • Placing a stent to keep the airway open in case of obstruction
  • Treating bleeding from the lungs or addressing airway narrowing through electrocautery

At Alfa Pulmonary Diseases Center, bronchoscopy is conducted under intravenous anesthesia to ensure maximum comfort and optimal outcomes for patients, with continuous monitoring by an anesthesiologist.

The examination is performed by inserting a thin tube through the trachea into the lungs.

Additionally, patients are required to sign a medical consent form, with a thorough explanation of the potential side effects during and after the procedure.
