Methacoline challenge test (bronchial hyperreactivity test)

Pulmonary function tests (PFTs) are a group of tests that evaluate how well your lungs work. This includes how well you’re able to breathe and how effective your lungs are able to bring oxygen to the rest of your body and get rid of carbon dioxide

Your doctor may order these tests:

  • if you’re having symptoms of lung problems suspecting ventilatory or diffusion defects
  • if you’re continuously exposed to certain substances in the environment or workplace or residential areas.
  • to diagnose, monitor the course of chronic lung disease, such as asthma and COPD
  • to assess operability before surgery, for example bariatric or cardiothoracic surgery.
